It wasnt more than a couple of months ago when I was thinking to my self "when in the hell are the new RX8 carbon fiber hoods going to come out!". Sure enough the new releases came and with force.
This year at the sema show we got a look at what was an old favorite revamped and restyled for the RX8. A couple of years a go the Mazda RX7 at the prime of its Fast and the Furious fame sported on rare occassions a stylish hood known as the KS, with two "top secret' rounded vents in the middle paired with two smaller ones near the corners of the engine bay.
The hood was both functional and aesthetically pleasing because its rounded induction ports complimented the rounded style of the RX7. Now this hot carbon fiber hood has been reworked to the tune of the RX8 and looks great in doing so. You can see some pics or the new RX8 KS carbon fiber hood to the left, as Seibon was confident enough to sport this hood being only six cars that they debuted at the SEMA show.
Lets not forget to mention the RX8 Top Secret II Hood shown to the left with the three paired slatted induction ports to the center of the hood. This is what makes Seibon such an interesting company, by bringing new styles and new designs to the drawing board rather than relying on the same old reproductions of the classic designs. The top secret is a great looking hood for those who want to stand out from the crowd and catch the eyes of onlookers as you scream by.
Currently the only carbon fiber hoods offered for the RX8 by Seibons competitors VIS, Carbon Creations and TC Sportline are OEM fabrications. We are hoping that VIS comes up with something new and intriguing in the same fasion as Seibon has with the high line import tuners rather than the classic Invader, EVO and Extreme GT hoods of the past. We believe the RX8 deserves better!
But for those not looking for such an aggressive style hood, stick with the OEM version, as its factory lines are pleasing enough to the untrained eye. The OEM versions by Seibon, VIS, TC Sportline and Carbon Creations all follow the factory style including the uniquely stylish "V" shaped impression at the back of the hood near the winshield. And if your in that market there is non other than VIS for us to recommend to you.
VIS over the years has grown to be masters at layering carbon fiber and has time in and time out produced the cleanest and clearest of all carbon fiber hoods we have ever experienced. Their layering process is the best and has consistantly over time proven to be the most uniform. VIS has also released the Magnum fiberglass bodykit for the RX8 which gives the car a clean look. We will keep you posted as to when more carbon fiber products are added to our catalogs including lip spoilers, wings and trunks.
